Where should I attach my load leveler gadget on an FE?

Post by robroy »

Hello!

If my load leveler gadget between my hoist and my FE engine has four
chains that go to the engine, what are the best four spots to attach
the chains to? Exhaust manifold bolts? Intake manifold bolts?

Thanks very much!

The front and rear intake bolts are OK, but use new grade 8 bolts and make sure they are long enough to get good thread engagement., but not too long as you would want them to be snug not sloppy and loose.

You can also go to the front and rear of each head (which I prefer) but the problem there can be the mount method for the leveler.

Good Luck!

Hi 71PA_Highboy, thanks very much for your response!

So I should definitely get new grade 8 bolts that are slightly longer than the
ones that are already in there?

Can the ones that are already in there be used if they're grade 8 and have
some decent thread engagement after adding the chains?

Thanks again,

Thanks for the advice! The engine is out. Here's a photo of how I attached the load leveler and a good shot of the whole scenario with the engine freshly removed.

I think they do it on concrete where it is easier to pull... at lease I did when I was a pro...

Good job!

I finally attached my other pickup to the engine joist with a long chain to gently tug forwards on the engine, which seemed to work.

Since a hoist lifts up (and doesn't pull forward necessarily), how is this scenario handled by the pros? How do they pull forward on the engine once its weight is supported by the hoist?

Or do they pull the truck backwards away from the dangling engine?

Thanks very much!
