not really an update.

things i did:
-got convincor's new truck running (well my dad did)
-got a new(to me) seat
-got a new(to me) pushguard

my nose has been clogged up, my throat is sore and ive had a headache, i feel like chopping my head off.

so i didnt get ANY work done to the truck.

but i got a cool new seat from convincor
its really comfy.....

when i took it out of convincor's truck, each of the 4 front bolts(bolts were 3 inches long)had two lug nuts as spacers. and the rear 4 bolts had 3 lug nuts as spacers. so im going to fab some nifty brackets or blocks or something :D

also got this push guard from convincor...

theres not going to be any update. :(

i was longboarding (like a skateboard but longer and smoother for cruising down hills) pretty fast, got speed-wobble (when your going really fast on a longboard and your board wobbles out of control) and i fell pretty hard. i think i did something pretty bad to my wrist. i cant do anything with it so therefore no work on the truck, or any other fun stuff i had planned for this weekend. i can barely type on the forums even.

well i spent all saturday getting the 71 the cleanest its ever been, and sunday at a huge waterfall in the mountains with friends.

but i did do some shopping :D

i loaded up on grinding supplies and got a paint gun and my dad brought home a painting suit. and i got some Carhartt work shorts from my dad's work. and a pickle fork to get the steering apart.
spent $75 at Harbor Frieght.

the paint gun is supposed to be the best paint gun for a low price, so im giving it a shot. it was for sale for $40.

well,

SCHOOOOOLLS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in other words, TONS OF 69 PROJECT PROGRESS!!!!!!!

i really hope to get the truck all together by the end of summer, so it can be moved out of the sideyard so my dad and i can begin our desert race bump. but i dont want to rush anything.

anyways ive been really busy lately with school finals, not anymore!!!! :D :woohoo:

today i got home from my grandma's house, and quickly pulled the engine out of its hidy hole and started working. i spent 4 hours STRAIGHT of scraping.. my fingers hurt :(

we are going to rebuild it, bottom end (hopefully, not 100% sure we will rebuild the bottom end though)to top. not a 100% perfect rebuild, but a budgit rebuild. we are thinking of a little machining or something, not sure on what will get machined or anything just yet.

-got engine out of its hibernation,
-scraped off gunk off of pistons,
-scraped off old gaskets
-got rid of the rough ridge on the top of the cylinders (took an hour alone),
-spent about 2 hours scraping/sanding/spraying/wiping the block of gunk,
-oiled the cylinders,
-put it back in its corner of waitness.
- i think thats it :?

well i confirmed that this indeed a 40 year old engine!
guess what?! under all the gunk in the cylinders, there were actually pistons  :D
Image
you can see the difference...
Image
Image

i forgot to take a before pic of the side of the block, but this is what it looked like all over:
Image
NOW: after looooots of aching fingers :D
Image
we will replace the freeze plugs
Image
Image
Image
dad got a hold of the camera :D
Image
then i found a timing chain cover under all that gunk! ill be removing this soon...
Image
sqeaky clean :D
Image

BEFORE: notice the ridge of gunk:
Image
Image

AFTER an hour of erasing the gunk with a scuffy pad:
i can hear my engine calling my name anxiously waiting for a squeaky clean and new life!! :D ok so im crazy hearing my engine talk..
Image

oiled up and ready for hibernation again..
Image

also all the cylinders feel Perfectly smooth!
the engine is also really easy to crank with a ratchet, it feels really smooth too.

i do still work at the welding shop, so i wont be working on my truck every hour of every day of every week of every month in summer, but the money for this project doesnt appear in my wallet :(

i was just payed though, got $450 towards the project right now :woohoo:
that will go towards epoxy primer, 2k primer, POR-15... then paint

stay tuned for alot more updates more often :D

Nice work, great to see another update on this. I've never had an engine that far apart and never knew the pistons could get all nasty like that in there.
