UPDATE:
well, not much of one though.
the weather this weekend was horrible. i would work on the truck in the shelter with the rain, but not all the wind.
but i did get:
-the carb pulled
-distributor pulled
-all pulleys/brackets pulled
-valve covers pulled
- my garage cleaned up alot
-prepared garage and tools for starting sanding, got an idea of what im in for.
before i pulled the above-listed things off (dont have any very recent pictures, my hands were pure grease and didnt want the camera to be that way)
i am going to start with this region, and find out whats going on under that bondo.
seems nice and straight here:
DENT:
another view of the dent:
seems straight:
DENT:
there is also a dent on the cowl, and a dent where the CHEVY bumper smacked the bed. ill check them all out soon.
THE PLAN:
im going to take the exhaust manifolds, intake manifold off and then wheelbarrow the block out . my dad and i are going to clean it (under the valve covers is a nice layer of grease on everything) and im going to repaint everything all original colors. and were going to install a 4 barrel intake and carb, and some headers . hopefully the engine and exhaust will be gone next weekend.
then im going to get the truck down to my work and have some stuff welded/cut off(bed brackets for example). THEN im goign to sand the whole truck to bare metal then bondo...
also just got a sliding rear window..
its going to get exciting

update:
mostly just worked on the engine
-but i did get alot of wiring harness removed,
-cut out a bunch of bogus wiring under the frame,
-marked all holes needed to be welded up,
-got a new hood from Green70 (he came by )
pics are worth 1 million words so here you go:
my dad and i got the passenger exhaust manifold off, and the cylinder head. the drivers side has a stripped bolt, so we are going to have to cherry pick the engine out, drill the bolt and get the exhaust manifold and cylinder head off the passenger side.
almost nothing left in the interior
i got all the tailgate trim removed:
look at my mess
look at how well i cleaned it up
well, you can only really see the side of the garage that i also cleaned. but i also cleaned the whole garage
my new hood:
hey look the bottoms clean unlike my other hood:
im going to practice sanding/filling/painting on my metal camper shell that im "rebuilding"
check out my new paint booth
this thing was FULL of spiders and webs, so i got the hose and spent 15 min. just flushing this place out
a fan will fit nicely in that window spot
next weekend my dad and i will pull the rest of the engine out, hopefully the truck will get towed down to the welding shop. and hopefully the camper shell will come off this weekend too. next weekend should be EXCITING!!!!

Nice color blue man. Believe me when I say orange paint makes an old truck like this rather flashy. My orange 72 has gotten more attention than you would believe. Outside cop attention, no negative. Young people like us may not need the attention of the blue lights. But, its yours and make sure you make it suit you. Do you know what color blue is on it or the 71 you have? They look alot like the color I would like to use on my 72 when I rework it.
