New tutorial: How to Decipher Ford Parts Numbers

Post by FORDification »

A while back I got started putting together a tutorial on how to decode Ford's infamous parts and casting number system, mainly with info I've gotten from various websites, books, etc. A lot of places I visited while researching this out for my own use has been very vague, and definitely incomplete, though many of them had some very good info. Therefore, I simply took the time to consolidate the best of what I've found, along with some very tedious transcribing of numbers directly from the '64-'72 Ford Truck Master Parts Catalog, 1975 Final Issue. I've been tinkering with it a little here and there, and making some slow progress.

However, I've been home sick with the flu for the past two days, and even though I wasn't in good enough shape to go to work, I was OK just sitting in front of the computer and doing some typing, so I finally got this 5-page tutorial finished up and posted. I'd really like for this to be as accurate as possible, so if anyone has any suggestions or criticisms, I'd definitely like to hear them. So...here you go:

How to Decipher FoMoCo Part Numbers tutorial series
- Overview (Prefix, Basic Part Number, Suffix)
- Basic Part Numbers - Regular Parts (Chassis, Engine, Electrical)
- Basic Part Numbers - Ford Truck Basic Body Parts (Exterior and Trim)
- Hardware (fasteners, clamps, grommets,etc.)
- Ford Special Service Tools

Funny you should mention that. As I type this, I've been up for 36 hours with no sleep. (Our baby got the stomach flu last night, so I was up all night with him, and then had to work all day.) I just walked in the door from work a few minutes ago, and the fatigue is actually just now setting in. I think I'll sleep well tonite!
