no brake lights or emergency flashers
I have had a problem with my turn signal for turning right. Most of the time it does not work, but sometimes it does. The left works just fine. I just took the steering wheel off again to check out the turn signal switch. By pushing the wires around and adjusting the hold down screen I got the right turn signal to work most of the time. The previous owner had someone install a later model switch and he cut some wires and spliced them to make it work with the 1972 column wiring. The splices go through the small hole in the steering wheel very tightly. I probably need a new switch. But to make matters worse, I have no stop lights and emergency flashers. When I pull the emergency flasher on, the front lights come on, but not the back. Seems like all these problems are interrelated.
What do you guys think?????? I would really like to get the brake lights working to I can drive my truck to work 30miles. Any help would be really appreciated
Thanks in advance, Kurt Combs

All the lights run through the turn signal switch, and since you've determined that yours has been jury-rigged and is malfunctioning, replacing it should be the first course of action. I'd be willing to bet your lights will function properly with a new switch in there.

re: no brake lights or emergency flashers
Keith,
Thanks for the response. I thought there might be somewhere else that just the brake lights and emergency flashers ran through. I was hoping for a quick fix so I could drive the truck to work on Monday. I will get that switch ordered and see what that does for my problems.
Thanks again.

Yup, need to get the right switch in there correctly wired. Facing similar electrical butch jobs on the 66.

re: no brake lights or emergency flashers
Problems with the turn, brake, and emergency lights seem to be very common on these trucks, and many times it turns out to be the turn signal switch.

re: no brake lights or emergency flashers
Thanks to all who posted and told me to change the turn signal switch. Turn signal switch installed and problem is solved. I should have gone for the more expensive brand as the switch was not identical to mine. I had to cut part of it off and figure out the wire colors to make it work. Looked like it was for a later truck. It sure is cool to have brake lights and turn signal that work.
