FORD crew cab 2WD to 4WD

Post by 1968HIGHBOY »

Been searching for quite some time to find a crew cab, finally found one thats a short box, do not care if its short or long, it is a F250 but only 2WD, so my question is am i dumb for wanting to convert it to 4WD? Also what do you think is best way to go about it? I am sure it has been done on here but just looking for opinions, Thanks in advance!

Your question has come up before, so search the site for more details.
Conversion to 4WD is more difficult than you might expect because of different frame crossmembers, steering components and engine perches, and likely also some other things that aren't coming to mind. To do this in a way that would give you a safe vehicle you would have to be skilled at frame modification, and also able to find the necessary drivetrain, suspension and steering parts.
An easier way if you have a good body (or at least if your truck does) and really want 4WD is to put the body on a 4WD chassis, assuming of course that you can find one.
A crew cab is a cool truck, so your best bet in my opinion, and certainly the easiest and least expensive choice, is to get it on the road and enjoy it for what it is.

It can be done. I have a long bed crew i've been accumulating parts to convert mine to 4wd. They did make a crew in a short bed 4x4 from the factory and they are out there. they did not however make a long bed 4x4.

Very vague question but what is 2WD crew cab short box worth? body is so so with rust in common places, engine runs but poorly, and trans goes forward and back... without giving alot of details is it a 1500 3000 5000 dollar pickup? Just looking for a ball park figure, i want to be fair but dont want to pay to much cause it needs about everything. Thanks, I will keep ya posted

Where bouts in the world are you? It effects price ranges. but a 2wd short box CC needing a lot of work? I wouldn't pay a whole lot for it. but somebody may. The crews are harder to find but if the body is shot it kinda negates the purpose of buying one. id say in general 1-3k range. Thats an estimated central coast cali opinion.
