360 FE 5 speed swap?

Post by Gage1970 »

Anybody swap a 5 speed tranny in there truck with a 360? Just curious. I want to know with what transmission? Bell housing? Adapter? Do I have to get a different t case? Or different drive lines?

The NV-4500 or TKO-500 or getrag-360 would be good bets with the divorced T-case you will use a 2WD trans and will need to change out the intermediate shaft and i would imagine the trans's input shaft... :2cents:

That sounds difficult and expensive for my 16 year old self. I guess I'll just save my pennies and re-gear my axles. But thanks for the imnpit I'll keep it in mind for another day.

Tremec TKO-500... it will bolt to a stock FE bell if ya spec a shortened input shaft. I'm using the mechanical clutch linkage too. The trans is about one inch longer than a C6.

It's doable... even on a 4x4.

HIO Silver... where does that shifter come through the floor? Looks like it would come through under the bench seat. Thanks.

Right there.... So long as you use a "candy cane" shift arm it will clear the bench when it is all the way forward in its tracks. But I eventually swapped to '70 Mach 1 buckets.

Thanks for those pics HIO. I will have to get ahold of you when I start my crew cab project.
