F-250 Highboy Rotors Special or Common to 78/79?

I'm needing a rotor for the front of my 76 F-250 w/ low pinion HP44. Are they the same as 78/79 F-250's or different? Will a rotor for a 78/79 work if different? What is the differences if any?

FYI, HP44 means high pinion 44. a low pinion high pinion 44 would be quite a unique find.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess they are different. The 76-77 axle and the 78-79 axle use completely different hub designs. I may have an extra 76-77 rotor laying around if you need one.

Thanks averagef250. I meant to state low pinion dana 44HD. I would rather have new but I can't even find anything for 76? Jeff's Bronco Graveyard don't even carry anything specifically for 76. But I see 78 and 79 everywhere!
I guess my next question would be if anybody knew where I could buy a rotor for a 76 F-250 4wd new?
averagef250, you are more than welcome to give me a quote on PM for a used rotor including shipping, but I am in NC - 27592 and shipping price alone might make a used rotor the price of a new one. These rascals are heavy!

Ahh! Portland Oregon to the Coast of North Carolina with a 50# used rotor. LOL

What if you give me the rotor and pay half the shipping. LOL Just kidding!!!
I might have to break down and go to FTE for answers to this one. I dread that...

I was under the impression the east coast has a pretty good surplus of old truck mechanical parts since the bodies they went under rusted off long ago.

New 76-77 parts aren't eesy to come by. I've used several 76-77 axles under bumpside trucks to get disc brakes and brake hoses are always a bear to track down. The last set I bought from Napa came from the east coast and cost nearly $150 after a big discount.

I've collected and parted several old Fords on the East Coast and amazingly the 67-72 bodies hold up way better than 73-79's do. Must be the metal used even though they didn't undercoat / galvanize as much. I am converting all my 73-79 chassis to 67-72 trucks.

I like the look of the knarly front 76 axle but I about wished I'd waited for a 78/79 parts truck for parts availability...

Is this a 8 lug being that it is a 250? I would image that you can mix-n-match. Ford, Chevy, Dodge. I thought that everything from the knuckles out were interchangeable including the 10 bolts found on Chevy's. The calipers will be different from make to make but the rotors i would imagine are the same. If this isn't a 8 lug than....??????

willysrul, this is for 8 lug. For 1976 and first half of 1977, I can confirm that the stub shafts, hubs, spindles and lock outs are different than for 77.5-79.
As for all being compatible, as long as you change out EVERYTHING from knuckles out. I just needed a rotor.

Thanks 67highboy! Too bad 78/79 rotors are a third that price.

The spindle studs on the ford d44hd are 7/16 fine thread and there are only 5 per side. Chevy uses 6 and they are 3/8 studs. I have learned this be cause Parts Mike just sent my right side knuckle back to me less 4 spindle studs and we (parts Mike) having a bear of a time finding replacements.

Welp Gittinwidit, I've just done the comparison and here's your answer to put an end to your troubles. :-) (Sarcastic) All rotors from any F-250 are EXACTLY THE SAME!!! INCLUDING 1976! And the hubs are what holds the studs in place and there are 8 per side (Wes) with 0.62 Knurl with an offset to allow for the studs to slide through the rotors. They are 1/2". Summit sells the studs to upgrade to 3" long and 5/8" if desired to match a 1 ton rear and enable to fit HD Aftermarket Aluminum rims. But pricey!
The only differences in 76 F-250's to later are the stub shafts, spindles, hubs (Including bearings), and lockouts. If you swap one, you must swap the rest.
So answer is "COMMON" Woo Hoo!!!
And averageF250, the brake lines swap right over as well since the calipers are exactly the same. Sorry for your large payout.
Also, the stub shafts from the 76 aren't turned down but cut in allowing them to be a little stronger than the 78 and later. No taper.
I am knowledged now! And can answer anyquestion pertaining to 1976 F-250 Dana 44.

Sorry Wes, I just read again, you are right, SPINDLE studs, not Lug studs. My bad. But they should be common as any Dana 44 out there since Knuckles are exactly the same.
