240 to 302

so how much trouble would it be to swap the 240 for a 302 or maybe a 289 with the 3 on tree transmission.
67 year model. would like to keep the 3 speed. no power brakes or steering. thanks

You will need engine mount towers and engine mounts. You can use your trans but if you get a post 1975 302 you will need a bolt on piece to mount your z bar clutch linkage. You will also need the correct flywheel. This would be fairly easy just need to get parts together.

the 240 runs fine, just thinking later on if I keep the pickup I may swap over to a v8

I put a 1986 302 Mercury Capri in my 69 F100 that had a 240 in it. Just engine perches,flywheel,and you had to get a different gas pedal. I had to make a plate on the engine side for the Z bar. I was thinking it was 1980 up that was missing the hole for the Z bar ball :? BTW mine is a 3 on the tree also, I put in flow master headers too.Good luck with your swap :thup:

good deal. not interested in a hot rod just a cruiser. wanting to keep the column shift. you wouldn't believe the younger people that see it don't know what it is :lol: thanks

That sounds good. :thup: As I said if you have a factory 240 truck ,You will need a v-8 gas pedal assembly. I-6 ones are curved towards the carb and v-8 ones go straight up. Have fun with your build :wink:

I just took it for a short drive on a county road because I have not got it legal yet. its hauls ass pretty dang good just like it is....

Yeah. A 240 is better than a 302 :wink: My opinion is put a nice inline 6 in it for the long haul :thup:

Careful. Don’t jinx it. :lol:
The 300 I6 in mine is original with probably 286,000 mi on it. I’d like to rebuild it, but after a short warmup it still comes up to power and torque, idles at 550. The other day a guy in the parking lot said it still purrs like a kitten. :)
Those Ford sixes were great motors.
